In a quest to strengthen capacity of the auditors, the African Organisation of English Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) holds a workshop on financial and compliance audit manuals for the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) from 15th to 19th October in Maseru.

In her opening remarks, the Auditor-General, Mrs. Lucy Liphafa commended African Development Bank and AFROSAI-E to have supported OAG in equipping auditors with skills. She highlighted that it has been difficult for the OAG to send auditors to previous regional workshops due to financial constraints and she was glad that the trainers were able to come to Lesotho and train more auditors.

“The usage of these manuals would help OAG reach a higher acceptance level as AFROSAI-E envisages and it will help widen participants’ knowledge,” said Mrs. Liphafa.

She congratulated participants for the opportunity to participate in the workshop and hoped that at the end of the workshop they will be able to perform their audit job better.

She welcomed the facilitators and thanked them for sacrificing from their busy schedules to come and help to improve OAG staff auditing skills using the financial and compliance manuals.

The training is held for senior, operational managers and team leaders. Among others, the participants would be trained on pre-engagement, understanding the entity, materiality, risk assessment and responses, performing the audit and reporting.

The facilitators are from South Africa, Tanzania and Botswana and the workshop is financially funded by AFROSAI-E and African Development Bank under Public Financial Management Reform Project in the Ministry of Finance.
